Configuration Guide Vol. 3

34.1.6 Linkage between BFD and protocols

When the status of BFD session and other protocols are linked, the linked protocols enable immediate troubleshooting.

If you want to switch routes when a failure is detected by BFD, configure BFD monitoring between all neighboring routers from which routes are learned. In addition, to reduce the error detection time deviation for the same switch in the network, the failure detection time (minimum transmission interval, minimum reception interval, and detection multiplier) of BFD sessions must be the same in the configuration of each switch.

(1) BGP4 peer monitoring [SL-L3A]

When a BGP4 peer is monitored by BFD, BGP4 peer's adjacency is disconnected and routes are switched as soon as a failure is detected by BFD.

Establishing BGP4 peering adjacencies and establishing BFD sessionsoperates independently.
