15.1.1 Overview

Software update means updating an older version of your software to a later version. To update the software, transfer the update file from the remote operation terminal or MC to the Switch and execute the operation command ppupdate. When updating, the device management configuration and user information (user account, password, etc.) are inherited as is.

(1) Update from a remote operation terminal

The following figure shows the flow of updating from a remote operation terminal such as a PC.

  1. Use ftp to transfer the update file from the remote operation terminal to the Switch.

  2. After logging in to the Switch, execute the update command (ppupdate).

(2) MC update

The following figure shows the flow of updating using MC.

  1. Insert MC containing the update file into the server.

  2. Copy (cp) the update file from MC to the Switch.

  3. After logging in to the Switch, execute the update command (ppupdate).

(3) Updating in a Stacked Configuration

The following figure shows the flow of updating in a stacked configuration.

  1. Transfers the update file to the master switch by ftp or MC.

  2. Copy (cp) the update file from the master switch to a switch other than the master.

  3. Use the operation command remote command to execute the update command (ppupdate) on a switch other than the master.

  4. Execute the update command (ppupdate) to the master switch.
