27.1.3 Notes on using VLAN tunneling

<Structure of this section>

(1) Coexistence with other functions

[See "24.3 Coexistence of Layer 2 Switch Function and Other Functions"

(2) About Defaults VLAN

Because default VLANs are not automatically installed, set all VLANs explicitly.

(3) About Native VLAN for Trunked Ports

The trunk port for VLAN tunneling is the port that stacks VLAN tags, but VLAN tags are not stacked with a native VLAN. Because this operation is different than other VLANs, native VLANs cannot be used as the VLAN for the backbone line of a VLAN-tunneled network. When using VLAN tunneling, the native VLAN of the trunked port must be suspend.

The native VLAN for the trunk port is the default VLAN unless set otherwise using the switchport trunk native vlan configuration command. When using VLAN tunneling functionality for the default VLAN, use the switchport trunk native vlan command to set a VLAN other than the default VLAN for the native VLAN. However, if you configure only the native VLAN for a trunk port, it operates as a tunneling port.

(4) About Frame User Priority

For User Priority on using VLAN tunneling, refer to the Configuration Guide Vol.2" "3.5 Markers Description.
