The total number of VLANs across all ports on the switch is the number of VLANs configured on each port added together for all the ports on the switch. For example, on a 24-port device, if 1000 VLAN are set for port 1 to port 10, and 1 is set for port 11 to port 24, the total number of VLAN per port for the device is 10014. Note that even ports belonging to a channel group are calculated based on the number of VLAN set for the port, rather than grouped by the channel group. If the total exceeds the capacity limit, CPU usage will increase, response to configuration commands and operation commands will be slower, and commands might fail to execute.

(1) Protocol VLAN

A protocol VLAN identifies protocols based on the values of the Ethernet-Type, LLC SAP, and SNAP type fields in an Ethernet frame. The following tables describe the capacity limits for configuring a protocol VLAN.

(2) MAC VLAN

(3) VLAN tunneling

(4) Tag transformation

The following table describes the number of tag translation information entries that can be configured. If Tag translation is set for a channel group, entries are consumed for each port that belongs to the channel group.
