22.1.3 Notes on using LLDP

(1) When another device that does not support this function is connected between the devices for which this function is set
If using a configuration described below, it is difficult to know the exact status of the connection between neighboring devices for the following reasons:

If a switch is connected between neighboring devices, the information sent over LLDP from one neighboring device is forwarded by the switch to the other neighboring device. In this case, the device that receives the information is unable to determine whether the received information is information about the other device or information about the switch.

If a router is connected between neighboring devices, the information distributed over LLDP from one device does not arrive at the other device, because the router discards the distributed information.
(2) Maximum number of neighboring devices
If the maximum capacity of a neighboring device is exceeded, the received distribution information is discarded. Note that the discarding of information is suppressed for a period of time to provide time within which the retention of saved information might time out. Note, however, that the maximum suppression time is the retention time for the neighboring device information to be discarded.
