31.1 Overview of IPv6 Multicast

The functionality implemented by IPv6 multicasting is the same as the IPv4 multicasting functionality. For information about IPv4 multicast, see Overview of 15.1 IPv4 Multicast. Note that IPv4 multicasting and IPv6 multicasting can operate independently of each other. Both IPv4 multicasting and IPv6 multicasting can be set separately on the same router.
