Configuration Guide Vol. 1

23.1.4 Layer 2 switching by MAC addressing

Layer 2 switching is performed based on the results of MAC address learning. If an entry corresponding to the destination MAC address has been kept, forwarding is performed only to the learned port.

The following table explains the specification by which Layer 2 switching operates.

Table 23-1: Layer 2 switching operation specifications

Type of destination MAC address

Operational overview

Learned unicast

Forwarding is performed to the learned port.

Unlearned unicast

Forwarding is performed to all ports belonging to the received VLAN.

When VXLAN function is enabled and the received VLAN is included in VNI, forwarding is performed according to the operation of VXLAN. [SL-L3A]

Broadcast

Forwarding is performed to all ports belonging to the received VLAN.

When VXLAN function is enabled and the received VLAN is included in VNI, forwarding is performed according to the operation of VXLAN. [SL-L3A]

Multicast

Forwarding is performed to all ports belonging to the received VLAN. However, for IGMP snooping or MLD snooping, forwarding is performed according to the learning results of the snooping functionality.

When VXLAN function is enabled and the received VLAN is included in VNI, forwarding is performed according to the operation of VXLAN. [SL-L3A]
