Configuration Guide Vol. 1

35.1.6 RA

RA(Router Advertisement) is a feature that allows routers to distribute IPv6 addressing requirements and defaults to terminals.

Routers regularly distribute only the prefix of their addresses in RAs. When a terminal receives an RA, it generates its address by combining its own interface ID and the prefix in the RA. In a sense, RAs provide terminals with a simple method of obtaining the prefixes of links without the need for servers.

When ipv6 nd accept-ra configuration command is set, the Switch can automatically generate a IPv6 by receiving RA. Receives the prefix part from the router, automatically generates a IPv6 global address with the device MAC address as the interface ID, and configures the received interface. At the same time, set RA source address (= the interface link-local address of the router that sent RA) as the default gateway. This default gateway takes precedence over the configuration of the default gateway using the configuration command ipv6 route.

If the information received by RA exceeds the capacity limit, the previously received information takes precedence.
