Configuration Guide Vol. 1

14.2 Equipment information required for operation and backup and restore

The following device information defines the operation of the Switch. This information is stored in the internal flash memory of the device.

When replacing a switch due to a failure, you must restore the software and device information used by the replacement device to the replaced device before the replacement in order to use the replacement device in the same operation. For how to back up software and device information from a running device and how to recover the created backup to a replaced device, see "Backup/Restore Procedure Using 14.2.2 backup/restore CommandPlease refer to. We recommend that you use the procedure provided to create a backup when you change the equipment information shown above in case of a failure or other replacement.

Although it is possible to recover everything manually without using backup/restore commandI do not recommend it because it is more complex to manage and cannot be completely recovered.

When you configure a stack, you synchronize device information on the master switch to the backup switch when the backup switch starts. This ensures that the same behavior occurs regardless of which switch on the stack is the master. For details, see 7.4 Stack operation and administration.

The Switch stores software and device information in a MC and has a MC operation mode that starts with the software and device information on MC at startup. When MC operation mode is used, the switch can be replaced simply by setting MC operation mode to the switch and replacing MC. For details about MC operation mode, see 15 MC Operation Mode.

The Switch can acquire and configure software and device information from the server for operation. Refer to 16 Zero Touch Provisioning for information on configuring software and device information through the server.
