Fast Ethernet Layer 2 Switch Featuring Robust Security

The AX1200S series provides high connectivity, usability and interoperability that are all consistent through the AX family. As a compact switch featuring a 1U height and a shallow depth, the AX1200S has two 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and two 1000BASE-X (SFP) ports for uplinks, allowing for flexible network configuration based on each user's network environment combined with the upper AX series. The AX1240S is a second generation edge switch with advanced hardware and software that can respond to higher demands. The AX1250S, which has functions equivalent to those of the AX1240S, is an edge switch whose resistance to heat, dripping water, and dust is enhanced so as to be used under severe environmental conditions (e.g., in factories or transportation services) .

1. Unified Architecture Consistent Through Lineup

  • Provision of low-end switches
    • Provides low-end Fast Ethernet layer 2 switches that can be used at a network edge. These switches can secure high connectivity, usability and interoperability that are all consistent through the AX family.

2. Robust Security

  • Triple authentication
    • Capable of mixing three types of authentication (IEEE 802.1X/Web/MAC) for user/PC authentication, which enables user entry into a user-specified VLAN while keeping freedom of physical configuration of a network edge.
  • Blocking access from unwanted DHCP servers / fixed IP address terminals
    • Provides robust security measures (e.g., use of DHCP Snooping to block access from unauthorized DHCP servers and fixed IP address terminals).
  • Linkage between RSA SecurID ® system and Web authentication
    • AX1240S and AX1250S enables Web authentication using the one-time password authentication function of RSA SecurID ® as an advanced security feature (to use this function, users are required to purchase its software license as an option).

3. High Reliability That Realizes Mission-Critical Networks

  • High device quality
    • Achieves high reliability based on careful parts selection and strict design/inspection requirements.
  • Configuring various types of redundant networks
    • Fast route switchover
      Enables construction of high-reliability redundant networks by using standard features such as link aggregation (IEEE802.3ad), UDLD, or Rapid Spanning Tree, and ALAXALA proprietary functions such as GSRP aware.
    • QoS that prioritizes important packets (such as those for voice data) over other packets.
  • Preventing L2 loops
    • Supports UDLD that prevents loops on Spanning Tree networks and frame loss associated with Link Aggregation.
    • Supports L2 loop detection feature that detects misconnection of devices on a network, thus making it possible to prevent loops.
  • Uplink Redundancy
    • Enables primary-secondary switching with AX1240S/AX1250S by connecting these switches to upper L2 switches using Uplink Redundancy. With this function, it is possible to configure redundant networks without using Spanning Tree (STP).
  • Ring Protocol
    • Provides high-speed, stable Layer 2 redundant networks by Autonomous Extensible Ring Protocol that enables various kinds of ring network configurations (supported by transit nodes only).
  • Improved operating conditions (AX1250S only)
    • Dripping water resistant with IP31 ingress protection defined in IEC 60529.
    • Uses carefully selected parts that assure the heat resistance of up to 50°C.
    • Designed to be fanless, which reduces troubles that may be caused by dusts absorbed into the device.

4. Combo Ports for Gigabit Uplinks

  • Gigabit Uplink support
    • Capable of using two ports simultaneously by combining 10/100/1000BASE-T or 1000BASE-X (SFP) ports, responding to various network environments.

5. Excellent Network Management and Operation

  • Supports various types of MIB (e.g., RMON), as well as basic MIB-II.
  • Supports CLI of the AX series for integration of operation management and maintenance operability.
  • Use of an SD memory card
    • Capable of log storage and software updates.

    • Reduces troubles that may be caused by dusts absorbed into the device and provides noise-free working environment.

8. Elimination of power lines with PoE (AX1240S-24P2CA)

  • Capable of housing PoE devices (such as IP phones and WAPs)
    • Eliminates the need for power lines. This reduces the frustration due to increased cables, the cost of power line wiring, and the construction period.
    • Supports full power feeding (370W at the maximum) of PoE (IEEE802.3af), which makes it possible to accommodate a maximum of 24 ports for Class 3 [15.4 W] power input devices. Also, supports PoE Plus (IEEE802.3at) that enables accommodation of a maximum of 12 ports for Class 4 [30.0 W] power input devices.

9. Power Saving Features

  • Dynamic power saving
    • Controls the power feeding state of the entire device and each port, according to a preset operation schedule (possible to schedule the operation so that power consumption can be reduced during holidays, Saturdays/Sundays, etc.).
  • Secure Wake On LAN
    • Makes it possible to access a web browser via company's intranet from the outside, so that users can power on their office PCs while they are away from the office. As the users can turn on/off their office PCs arbitrarily, it is possible to reduce power consumption of the entire system (to use this function, users are required to purchase its optional license as an option).

10. IPv6 Support

  • Supports MLD Snooping that controls transmission of IPv6 multicast packets.

11. Granular QoS

  • As an L2 switch, the AX1200S series switches are capable of identifying L2/L3/L4 flows and performing priority control and bandwidth control. In addition, these switches support ToS, CoS marking, and ToS/CoS mapping, thus making it possible to perform QoS processing and delivery of packets in an optimized manner, in response to the characteristics of each application (e.g., IP telephony).
